Jamaal Williams was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 134th overall selection in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of BYU.

The native of Rialto, California, was a very prolific collegiate player. In four seasons with the Cougars, he rushed for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns. Two 1,000-yard seasons were put together by him.

Williams’ stature and decisiveness as a runner impressed several experts before to the selection. He didn’t avoid touch, but rather embraced it. According to NFL.com, many evaluators saw him as a backup at the next level.

Green Bay was where Williams spent his first four professional seasons. On the ground, he ran the ball 500 times for 1,985 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has 122 catches for 961 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.

Aaron Jones eventually became the Packers’ main running back, but Williams didn’t make it easy for him. To take use of both players’ talents, the club used a committee method. He got the reps because of his performance as a receiver and in pass blocking situations at BYU.

Williams and the Packers parted ways when he became a free agent.

The Lions, according to Williams, are treating him nicely.

In the offseason, the Detroit Lions signed Jamaal Williams to a two-year contract for up to $7.5 million.

D’Andre Swift is expected to be a three-down back in the NFL for the foreseeable future. While this is true, Williams adds a unique dimension to offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn’s scheme. Lynn’s offensive game plan has been built on the usage of several running backs in recent seasons.

Williams’ ability to pass guard and receive the ball out of the backfield will help him maintain a regular part in the Lions offense. In Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, he carried for 54 yards and a score. In addition, he grabbed eight receptions for 56 yards in the air.

The 26-year-old loved his time in Green Bay, but he has settled very well in Detroit.

In a Lions news conference, Williams joked about his connection with the Packers, saying, “They didn’t want me, like that ex-girlfriend.” “It’s a good thing I grabbed a rebound since it was the Lions. They are now feeding me well and bringing me to meals. Another person’s garbage is another person’s treasure.”

It’s all love between Williams and his old club, but if football doesn’t work out, he has a bright future as an entertainer.

It can’t be easy going from a regular playoff contender to one of the league’s worst feeders, but the fifth-year running back is handling it with ease.

The return of Jamaal Williams to Green Bay will be electrifying.

Jamaal Williams became a fan favorite during his time with the Green Bay Packers. It will certainly be a memorable homecoming to Lambeau Field.

When asked about performing a Lambeau Leap, he told The Athletic, “I feel like I’m still well-loved enough not to be messed with.”

Williams was adored not just by the Packers’ fans, but also by his colleagues. During the 2020 season, Aaron Rodgers stated, “I adore Jamaal.”

Jamaal is a vital member of our team in a variety of ways. He’s not only good at the physical, on-the-field things you watch him do…. He clearly offers a lot more than just the physical — the energy, the swag, the dance movements that we can all strive to imitate or admire. He’s a critical component of what we’re doing.

Aaron Jones, a fellow running back with the Packers, had a terrific connection with the ex-Packer. Jones remarked, “I miss Jamaal a lot.” “He’s a one-of-a-kind individual. He’s a fascinating guy, and I adore him.”

Williams is excited to return to the place where he started his NFL career. He said, “I’ll get there a bit early so the times I’ll be dancing out there, they won’t even have the people out there yet.” “I’m really looking forward to that. It’s going to be a fantastic game.”

In the season opener, the Packers lacked his vigor. The squad failed to show up. Green Bay will be aiming to drop another egg on Monday Night Football, which the Lions will be praying for.
